The performing arts festival FINFRINGE jumps in the cool November water

Turku 13.5.2020

FINFRINGE 2020 will be held at Åbo Svenska Teater 19-21 November. A dozen different shows from three different countries will take the stage during the festival. “Our slogan this time is The COOLEST fringe ever, FINFRINGE in NOVEMBER! The program is very cool, the shows are from Finland and other Nordic countries, and of course November is very cool,” the festival’s brand manager, Sauli Luttinen, smirks.

The internationally recognized comic author and comedian Hugleikur Dagsson will appear at Åbo Svenska Teater with his show Hooligan, which has entertained audiences all over the world. Last year’s favourite, My Voices Have Tourettes from Iceland, also returns to the Tiljan stage with new stand-up material. The sympathetic Mosaik theatre company from Sweden, with performers with mental disabilities, will charm the audience with their dance performance, Imago. “And many more interesting performances from the fringe of performing arts. Genres vary from theatre, circus, puppetry, live readings and dance to stand-up,” the festival’s artistic director, Sami Rannila, says.

All the performances at FINFRINGE are under an hour long. A new special ticket, the Full House festival pass, will allow audience members to see every show during the festival. “Performing arts has been on hiatus during spring,” the festival’s executive director, Kristina Vahvaselkä, says. “It’s time to break the ice and dare to look forward past all the cancellations.” FINFRINGE is an urban event that takes place in downtown Turku.

FINFRINGE2020 cancelled due to corona pandemic

Turku March 20, 2020

The board of FINFRINGE ry. has decided to cancel the FINFRINGE2020 festival in May 13–17. “We want to take our responsibility as a cultural operator and follow the directives set by the Finnish Government. FINFRINGE wants to protect both the audience and our international performers'', says chairman Sami Rannila.

The search for alternative dates for the fall 2020 has begun. “We had – and still have – an amazing and diverse program coming up. We’ll do our utmost to bring the Icelandic comedians, the Swedish theatres, the Finnish dancers and all the other fantastic performances before a large audience”, says Executive Director Kristina Vahvaselkä. The program was published in the beginning of March and can still be found at the festival’s home page

Additionally, The Latebloomers Scotland!-tour will be postponed to a later date.

At this time, we would like to thank all our supporters, our audience, all our volunteers and our partners.

We are sorry for any inconvenience the cancellation might cause, but welcome all performers and the audience back with open arms at a later date. The FINFRINGE-team is not defeated, and will return more dashing and more diverse than ever!
