MUKAILLEN - Improvisation Group Rinkeli
The world is full of well-known stories such as Romeo and Juliet, the Christmas Gospel, and The Ugly Duckling. But what other interesting characters and events lie behind these beloved stories? What was the innkeeper's real dream job after turning Mary and Joseph away? What kind of child welfare report might have been filed by the swan parents who lost their ugly duckling? And how might these classic stories have unfolded if there had been a small change in the chain of events?
The improvisation group Rinkeli delves into the supporting characters of well-known stories, making them the main characters and exploring how these classic stories might have unfolded differently. The result is a hilarious performance that feels familiar and yet unknown at the same time, putting characters who usually remain in supporting roles in the spotlight — not to mention delightful musical numbers!
MISS CATASTROPH
Miss Catastroph is the embodiment of disaster — a tragicomic anti-heroine operating at the intersection of clowning and visual art. She appears unexpectedly in public spaces, carrying the weight of the world and inviting the audience to reflect on the relationship between humans and nature. Constructed from plastic and performance, the character carnivalises the crises of our time with ruthless immediacy.
Performer: Minni Hirvonen
HOSTIKKA
HOSTIKKA is a six-piece band from Finland playing new wawe instrumental folk music.
The melodies painting the stories play with the beautiful characteristic of Nordic folk music. As a counterweight the comp section roars with abundant rhythms and harmonies daringly taking influences from different genres.
HOSTIKKA's music is composed by double bassist Saija Hostikka and guitarist-producer Jaakko Penttilä. The band's unique voice comes from each musician bringing their own story and color into the songs - and together transforming them into living, breathing, and beautifully expressive instrumental music.
HOSTIKKA's compositions are rooted in Finnish traditional dance styles such as quadrille and waltz, yet the songs pudh tradition purposefully toward something new. You can also hear influences from bluegrass, americana, jazz and world music - while the overall sound remains distinctly Finnish and uniquely their own. This is music that moves you, makes you dance, and lingers in the vody long after the last note.
Lineup: Saija Hostikka (double bass), Jaakko Penttilä (guitar), Aino Kinnunen (fiddle), Jari Kankare (flutes and saxophone), Maimu Jõgeda (accordion), Jesse Lehto (drums).
