Description: In 2016, AlphaGo, a deep neural network developed by Google’s DeepMind, challenged the reigning world champion of Go, Lee Sedol. Go, the oldest board game in the world appears simple but holds unfathomable complexity—the number of possible board positions surpasses the number of atoms in the universe. It was long believed that victory in Go depended on human intuition and creativity, qualities no machine could replicate.

But in March 2016, the unimaginable happened. AlphaGo defeated Sedol 4–1, making history and landing on the front page of Nature. One move in particular — Move 37 — shocked the world, a move so unconventional that it questioned our understanding of intelligence.

MOVE 37 is a lecture performance by Thomas Ryckewaert, diving into this pivotal moment. A moment where A.I. reveals itself as something both brilliant and unsettling—highly intelligent, deeply creative, yet utterly alien.
